Michigan Contractor's License Test Question

I let my Michigan Electrical Contractor's License expire in 2000 when I moved out of state. Now I am back in MI and will be taking the test next month. When I first got my license back some time around 1990, there was no test, just an application. My question is to those who have recently take this test. Is this simply an open book test consisting of quetions that can be answered by looking things up in the reference material they provide? Should I study all of the stuff they cite on their website first? Does anyone recommend the Chuck Cossin on-line course that you pay for to prepare you for the test?

Who is giving the exam, Experior etc...

When I took my Contractors Exam, in Kentucky, it was open book, Experior was the testing entity.

I don't know if this helps.

The state gives the test. They state that they provide all required reference material so I presume that means an open book type test. I have a pretty good idea that they want to know if you are able to find the answers to a series of questions involing the related rules, regs and law of the state of Michigan. I realize that this is not a test of one's knowledge of electrical practices or codes, but rather about the business of contracting. My question is; is the test basic enough that anyone who can read can look up the answers in the material they provide or does it actually require knowledge beyond that which one would find in that material. In other words, is the course by Cossin worth the cost?

If you take the Cossin course, you will get a 100%. I took the test 6 months ago and got a 100%.

Yes, Big Vic, I do hold a current Michigan master's license. I was fortunate enough that Michigan (our fair state) has a provision that allowed me to reactivate my master's license after letting it lapse and while I was living in exile in another state at the time. I already downloaded and printed all of the reference rules and acts which were cited in the application packet I received from the state. After perusing them I think I will take my chances and forego the Cossin course and see if I am smart enough to find the answers in the material they provide during the test..........

I took the cossin exam prep for the masters exam and found it to be a good refresher. I had the pleasure of being in the frist contractors exam and I must say it was harder than the masters. Learn the index's.
