I have a dedicated outlet for microwave oven at the counter of a kitchen. It is about 6 ft from the sink. The outlet is a grounded type. Is it mandatory by NEC to be equipped with GFCI?

Is the MW on the countertop?

If this outlet is at the countertop than in my opinion it mut be GFCI protected.

If it serves the countertop it makes no differance 6'' or 6' or 60' it must be GFI.
