Im going to start watching Mike Holts 2005 grounding VS bonding DVD for the 3rd time tonight. Every time I watch it I pick up something new. The 3 things I learned last time I watched it are
1) you cant raise the voltage of the earth. Say you had 5 volts on a metal object, well grounding it to the earth will not remove the 5 volts
2) ground rods don't do anything to protect the interior wiring. If you want to protect the interior wiring you need a TVSS on your panel.
3) A TVSS system shunts the transient voltage back to the transformer and not to ground.
It has been the best training tape I think I have ever watched. Thanks Mr. Holt for making it.
