I have quite a few Milwaukee M18 battery tools, now its time for new M18 XC5.0 amp batteries (48-11-1850)
Typical price each from wholesale or on line is $129 each.
Amazon is $65.66 each, I checked to make sure it wasn't some off brand. Can this price be correct at Amazon?

Giving us the link to what you are looking at would seem appropriate, but there is no reason to suspect it yet. Amazon vendors will give their best price immediately because they know that one click takes you to another vendor.

Proprietary batteries are a type of item very often overpriced.

Worst case, let's say it is a counterfeit. Either it works just as well and you are happy (ignorantly or not) or it doesn't and Amazon refunds everything, including shipping.

Actually the ones that are listed as "off brand" are less expensive. Replacement for 48-11-1850 was only about $38.

When I just looked I was finding what claims to be a real 48-11-1850 for $67.45, but only 10 left in stock, so this probably changes often.

Well, I think I figured it out - duh. Kind of obvious given a little reflection (that is an intentional pun)
