Mini split communication wire

Can you splice the communication wire on a A/C mini split system we have junction between condenser and fan coil A/C mechanic claiming splices in wre are interfering with communication between units.

The HVAC guys are trained not to do that even if it doesn't have any impact on performance.

If they are having problems and you did not do something to instructions, they blame you until you make it right.... then they still end up having same problems and don't know why.

This applies to all HVAC equipment not just mini-splits.

That makes sense but the cable in question here is usually not shielded. Is usually a TC rated cable that the manufacturers claim is only cable they will accept should warranty issues come up. Nothing special about it when it comes to ability to reject interference, in fact isn't even twisted conductors in said cable, just flat parallel conductors just like you'd have with NM or UF cable.

I recall hearing a similar thing from an HVAC guy. I'm not sure if it's something in the manufacturers instructions or HVAC folklore. Probably the latter. I also am requested frequently on these to make sure I have a "good ground" cuz these things are "sensitive" to that

As long as it’s not shielded. Not all of them are required to be. I install Panasonic units and they are not shielded.

I'm in electrofelons camp (post 6).... I've heard from HVAC folks it should not be splice but have seen it spliced several times apparently with no repercussions
