It seems some inspectors are still requiring a switch below the inside wall mounted unit to serve as a disconnect .
I thought we had came to a concensus.
Is it required inside, or is the outside disconnect good enough?
Are y'all being required to install an inside disconnect?
That black cable used is kind of precarious to put in an outlet box.Screenshot_20240216-100229_Gallery.jpg

What appliance or equipment are you applying power to? Many equipment require disconnect “within sight” or 50’ feet from the equipment.

Sometimes the breaker panel can serve this purpose if within sight I believe?

I'm sorry.
I thought we did as well. Not required.
Outside is compliant.
Not in my town, nor did I require an inside disconnect.
Good luck!

Has any body got an exact code article referring to this interior disconnect not being needed
The one I see used most often is 430.120(B)
In addition there are a couple more reasonable arguments:
1. The scope of 440 says it covers things with hermetic compressors, which the indoor unit doent have, so that sends you to the 430 reference
2. The indoor unit is covered under article 422, which has a similar exception as the 430 reference.
