Dear All,

I was looking for some 4 Core 4 AWG Tray rated Power cable for a same day pick up.
I found a Cable with 3 cores (4AWG) and the ground wire 8AWG. Is it allowed for the ground conductor to be small?
If so What will be the Code related to this? and any links for more information about this

The equipment grounding conductor is based on Table 250.122.
A #8 equipment grounding conductor would normally be sufficient for a #4 phase conductor.
The grounded conductor would be based on load but is not allowed to be smaller than the equipment grounding conductor {215.2(A)(2)}

Are you increasing ungrounded conductor sizes any for voltage drop?

Nope. Just buying cable for feeding power from a new transformer to a new cabinet. The cable was showing 3 conductors of 4AWG and ground conductor of 8AWG. So I was doubtful if 8AWG Ground wire is sufficient as the the other conductors are bigger
