Minimum height for receptacles

I agree with the other responders. But I will add that the NEC does sometimes give a maximum height.

Maybe there is a height with the ADA.

. . . Electrical and communications system receptacles on walls shall be mounted no less than 15 in (380 mm) above the floor.
EXCEPTION: These requirements do not appy where the use of special equpment dictates otherwise or where electrical and communications systems receptacles are not intended for use by the building occupants.
ADA / 28 CFR Part 36 4.27.3 1991. Time for a new one!

I think our area does not like a single receptacle to be used for 210.52 spacing, so I would expect that 15" to center is ok for ADA, but entire duplex 15" aff. local.

For side approach it is 9"

The 30 by 48 inch wheelchair clear floor space is located a maximum 10 inches (255 mm) from the wall.

Yeah, I saw that too, but I didn't find any associated text then, now I see it is 4.2.6 (1991). Will that trump 4.27.3? I don't use this book that often.

Though with the image link I assume it is available online now . . .

It would for 210.52 recep's.
(4) Located not more than 1.7 m (5 1/2 ft) above the floor.

That would be MAX height, minimum is what was questioned.

My response was actually to the question of if it was a commercial installation.

If it's a commercial then ADA would apply and it is minimum 15" to the center AFF, so it can be higher. Even here where we follow the CA Electrical Code, which is the NEC with ADA amendments they took that out of the book and it is now in the IBC.

So to truly answer your question there is nothing in the NEC about minimum height.

The diagram above is from the ADA guidelines and there is no mention of side approach not being allowed in commercial settings. As a matter of fact, I have installed items at heights per the above diagram in USPS installations.

Appendix A to Part 1191 - Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities

4.27.2 Clear Floor Space. Clear floor space
complying with 4.2.4 that allows a forward or a

4.2.6* Side Reach. If the clear floor space allows
parallel approach by a person in a wheelchair, the
maximum high side reach allowed shall be 54 in
(1370 mm) and the low side reach shall be no less
than 9 in (230 mm) above the floor (Fig. 6(a) and
