I had a co-worker tell me that a time clock installed next to a panel box must have a minimum clearance of not less then 6 foot. I dis-agreed. He said it was code and he would "Find it later". Then the owner of my company said that he was aware of this code also but didn't know the exact location of the NEC.

Their position is that I must prove that it isn't in the code. LOL

Well if you guys could help me out what are the rules for location of electrical-mechanical timing devices in general and specifically when install around the panel.

The device in question is almost always an Intermatic T101.

Thanks in advance for your help. :D

Re: Minimum Height

This if it were addressed, it would probably be in Article 404 2002 NEC or 380 in the 99 NEC.

I don't think you'll find it.

Re: Minimum Height

Clearance or height? There is no minimum mounting height for overcurrent devices except in Art 555. There is a max height of 6'6" to center of operating handle.
There are no rules that would apply to a time clock, however if it is mounted above or below an electrical panel then you would have to observe 110.26.

Re: Minimum Height

The T101 is a sprinkler control is it not?I think the rule they are speaking of would be the dedicated space requirement in 110.26 F OF THE NEC.THE SPACE equal to the width and depth of the equipment and extending from the floor to a height of 1.8m(6 ft.) above the equipment or to the structural ceiling, whichever is lower shall be dedicated to the electrical installation. If you are mounted next to the panel and the t101 does not interfere with opening the door of the panel or access to the panel and you are not above or below the panel then I would not think that there would be any problem.
