minimum space between meter and disconnect

Is there a minimum distance between a house meter and a disconnect right beside it? Once, a POCO said my 2 inch diameter metal fitting that only spaced out the panels 1 1/2 inches apart is too short. They said they have a minimum of 3 inches, I believe, if I remember. They accepted it but.... Thank you.

Never heard of such a requirement but POCO's can make up their own stuff.

Otherwise I also agree - POCO's can make up about any rule they want, but nothing on this per NEC.
