How do you make a passing grade on the new Master Minnesota exam?? I just took mine and got the result (did not make it). I had thought I fair very well on the test to pass. I don't see where I went wrong.

This is just aggravating.

I don't know how you expect someone to answer this question.

Get more answers right?
Study harder?

Re: Minnesota exam

I was just venting. I found 95% of what was asked. My voltage drop, ohms law calculation, range calculation , etc (I am very certain it's correct).

Yep, gotta get more answer right or find out what went wrong for the retest.

Anybody who is planning to retake/take the Minnesota master test can EDIT: Private message me. Maybe we can go over possible questions and calculations.

Re: Minnesota exam

Minnesota designs its own exam. The last time they did a re-design (last year), out of 91 people who took the new journeyman and master exams, one person passed with a 70%. They had to scrap the new exam and go back to the old one because lots of people were very angry that the exam was obviously flawed. The attorney general even got involved and waived the statutory six-month wait for anyone who failed the new test.

The previous exam was not all that great either. I wound up taking it twice, and the second time I took it I thought I nailed all the code questions. I still got five of them wrong. One person at the state board even admitted to me that the exam had problems.

It might be worthwhile to find out what the pass/fail rates are. The old exams had pass rates in the 40-50% range. If a significant number of people are passing the new exam, then it's tough to claim that the exam is flawed.

For any looking at this topic - for the record, go to electricity.state.mn.us and click on "Electrical Licensing" then "Personal Licensing" then "License examination guide" for good info on the format, types of questions, and sample questions on the exams.
