Minor Garage Pit classification area

I am working on a project for a customer that is installing a pit in a shop area. My understanding of the 511.d.1 and 511.d.3 is that if proper ventilation is installed then both the floor area and the pit can be unclassified. Is this a correct intrepretation? If the ventilation of the pit only makes it a C1D2 then what seals are required for the following installation of a horizontal run of lights. Assume the light fixtures are rated for C1D2.

unclassified area-----C1D2 boundary-------Horz. Seal----Lite------Lite------Lite

Conduit will be entering horizontally into a trough on the walls of the pit and all conduit, therein, will be RGC with threaded couplings, if necessary. does this seem reasonable and in compliance? I am fairly new to hazardous location work so any help would be greatly appreciated.

If this is defined as a minor repair garage and if you have provided the ventilation required in 511.3(D)(1)(a) and (D)(3)(a) for the floor area and pit area then the areas are non-classified.
