I have a customer with a QO panel that has the cover and door on it, but missing the adjustable dead front, dead front screws, and springs. The sticker inside of the door has these numbers on it...

Cat No. QOC40U
series G1
type 1 enclosure
Issue #M-2118

does anyone know what dept. to contact at Square D to see if the deadfront is still available, or know of anyplace that might have new old stock of stuff like that? Thanks....

From what I seen on the web site that is a good number for the entire cover.
Which I'm sure will be easier to get than just the dead front.

I just sent a e-mail to thier generic contact address, hopefully they will forward it to whoever can help me, there are no Square D dealers in my area anymore, the closest that I know of is about 50 miles away.

A QO loadcenter does not have a separate deadfront. When you remove the cover you see everything. This is one of the differences between a 'loadcenter' and a 'panelboard'.

The part number you gave is for the complete cover, door and dead front except you need to add the suffix "S" (i.e. QOC40US) for surface or "F" for flush.

what I am calling the dead front is the flat piece of metal that has the knock outs for the breakers in it, it is suspended off of screws and springs to allow you to snug it down onto the breakers. when I open the door on the cover you just see the breakers and all the internal parts exposed. dead front may not be the proper name for this part, but I dont know what else to call it....

The part you describe should be attached to the cover. You just need to buy the whole thing, like Jim said in his post.

you can call the square D tech support for any issue like this (its an 800 # you can get from your supplier). they will give you the part # plus a case # for reference. the supplier can then order the part using the part #.

Send me a PM Bob, I can get that cover for you for about 1/2 of what Menard's is quoting you if you want, might work out about the same though, including shipping. FWIW, the cover does come complete with the "deadfront" attached to the cover and you do need to add an S or F to the part number to designate surface or flush.
