Can you mix Emt with RMC? Ex: An Emt connector with a Rigid coupling then RX conn on top? I have been looking in Art.300 but cannot find, I am almost certain that you cannot. I know you cannot mix PVC with Emt cannot find that in the code art. also..WHy can you then put a plastic bushing over an emt conn? .. Can someone help? thanks

You mean transition from EMT to PVC or EMT to IMC/RMC? is perfectly fine.

But using different fittings on dissimilar conduit is not OK. for example, EMT fittings are only for EMT and PVC fittings good for PVC.

The Fittings, ex. Emt conn to a Rigid coupling.. Can you explain more on Transition from Emt to PVC?

Well that is what bushings were made for, to protect the conductors leaving the conduit/entering the box.

Do they make metallic bushings for EMT ? I have always used plastic bushings for EMT, PVC, & Rigid installations.

Do I dare mention the debate about whether or not the EMT or even other fitting is listed to thread into a RMC coupling?

I have done this myself many times, I have never had an inspector reject any such installation, but I will not say we were both right or wrong either.

Only if it is a transition fitting listed for the purpose.

That is what I was getting at, fitting designed for different type of raceway on each end vs using a rigid coupling and two different types of male adapters to make the transition. It gets the job done, but those that look hard at listings may find this is not a listed way to transition in most cases.
