In a proposed training class room with computer monitors, I plan to provide fluorescent tube light fittings centrally and a few emergency LED light fittings on sides. During projector operation, the lecturer can switch off the centrally arranged, group controlled fluorescent tube light fittings by two way switches and dim the light output from LED side lights. I plan LED lights because I think it is easier to dim. Also I think it is no problem mixing light from fluorescent tube lights and LED lights. Your input please.

We assume you intend to wire these on the same circuit? Is there a projector planned for the space on the same circuit? What method to dim the LED? Please clarify emergency: Is this egress lighting?

As far as light quality goes, it would be a matter of personal preference. In my approx. 25 x 25 foot basement, I have tube fluorescents, CFL's, LED's and and incandescents. One area has a combo of 2700 and 5000 k CFL's. I have never noticed any problem with having all of them on, so I could tell you from personal experience that I don't have a 'mixture' problem even with all the different types of light I use. The reason for all the different lights is the use of the area. For the storage area, one tube fluorescent fixture. For my karate / work out area, I have the CFL's with the two different K ratings. The laundry has LED, the work area has LED for standard lighting, and incandescent for work light and magnifying glass light.

So far, no issues, and certainly none with mixture.
