Installed 4/0 USE from pedestal to panel in mobile home. Inspector rejected it stating USE is not permitted inside mobile home. It is in conduit coming out of the ground. Never heard this before.

USE is not listed for entrance into the mobile home (even in a raceway) unless it's listed as a recognized NEC conductor like RHW-2, etc.

FIFY.

If conductors are only marked "USE" they can't be indoors, period. If they have multiple markings such as "USE, RHW, RHW-2" then the RHW** designation is what allows them indoors. Straight USE doesn't have the same flame and smoke producing characteristics as those other types have I believe is the reasoning.

Nothing to fix, this thread is about a panel into mobile home no? :)

But you are correct they're not permitted to enter any structure.

I was just "tryn to learn him" that it isn't solely an issue with mobile homes.;)

In fact if his inspector were to cite a code section that was violated it would not have been anything in art 550.

Does that apply to a mobile home?
Possibly not. It is a bit complicated as the wiring inside a mobile home is not covered AFAIK, while the outside feeders to it are covered by the NEC. So if the NEC says it is inside the building, it is not covered by NEC and may not be inside the building.... 🥴
