Is it just me or are we attracting a lot more DIY threads than usual? Maybe we could put a motor feeder calc on the registration form :p

I have also noticed a rash of DIY questions lately. Perhaps its the season; people have good weather to work in, and are starting their home projects.

But please don't suggest a motor feeder calc as the entrance exam for registering on this Forum. I would never have passed! (Motors are not my best friends.) ;)

Back when I registered, you had to pick your occupation from a list, and homeowner wasn't on there. You also had to be logged in to read anything. Both of these have changed. If you don't want unqualified people here, why not have it work like it used to? Even though you don't answer questions, I think people just reading some of the discussions can be bad. They will make assumptions that some answer will apply to them.

I've often wondered what keeps a DIY with a little knowledge from just stating that he is an electrician. Certain posts will be obvious, but some might not be.

I think John is right. It is very easy to "fool" the system, or lie. I think that we in general and especially the moderators do a pretty good job at reading between the lines in some of the posts to determine who really is just a DIY.

Kudos to the moderators on that also.

Of course there also the idiot e-sellers that post for sale info in Grounding Versus Bonding

Just out of curiosity, is there any way we can get a report post button for things like this?

See the little
report.gif
icon in the upper right corner of each post (except your own)? That's the "Report Post" button.

Kool button, how long has it been there ? i never noticed it before.
There is a danger if anyone can read these pages without log in.Looking thru them could likely answer many questions.A test would eliminate many but not everyone.I would suggest a test but we cant make it hard or many ligit helpers would be booted.

What if the test consisted of a somewhat obscure or less used code question? At least if it was a little leading even a helper could look it up.

Just so long as it is not a calculation. you can find a calculator for anything on-line.

Charlie,

I almost fell out of my chair laughing! That just lightened my day, thanks.

Motor feeder calc?
Then, You'll want CE requirements to renew anually?

I think this forum is just great & if a DIY can pull one past us then congratulations to them.

This forum software must be a packaged program as I have seen the exact format several other places online. Just not Policed 24/7 as well as this is
