I find this dicussion very interesting, but it does get things very confused, perhpas there should be a new heading section for "electrical theory"? Here, if we run a panel from the main service panel, we run four wires. If not it doesn't pass inspection. You remarked at one point that, this particular subject became opinion rather than code. There are a lot of people who read these posts and are looking for good solid information. I like the fact that bennie gives his opinion, and that other people can agree or dissagree, thats what makes this such a good site. If this were in a "theory" section then everyone would be clear about what is code and what is theory. I am not wanting to offend anyone here and the knowledge base here is incredible and extremly helpful. I thank all of you for you valuable information, I guess this is just my opinion for clarity.

Re: moderator

I sure hope code and theory are the same subject.

Theory must be learned before applying a code or rules.

Theory is something that is not entirely approved or understood by everyone, code is something that is not entirely approved or understood by anyone.

When code is chiseled in stone, and not modified, clarified, or deleted, every 3 years, then theory can be learned from the code. Many changes in the code, are made without a clear understanding of the reason.

Eventually the origin and reason gets lost in the many translations.

Without learning the theory behind a code section, the rule gets broken.

I am sorry my opinions disturb you.

Re: moderator

I am not disturbed ben, I have only been in the trade for 20 years and have a lot to learn. Those who are just starting out have much less experience and need to have these dialogs to learn. If the discussion is on wether or not the code should be changed, that is fine> I don't diagree with you, just for lots of people they need to get a clear idea of what current code is, because they have to install it properly. I did not intend to single you out, just that clarity in these posts would be a big help to those of us who are trying to find out proper code compliance. At least of what the inspectors are considering code compliance. again I appreciate everyones input. This is a great site.
