Modification to Load Side Bus Bar

Is it permissible to remove a section of bolted bus bar on the load side of a main circuit breaker (1200A) ? This would be done to allow tapping of each open end to allow it to be wired through an automatic transfer switch.

I suppose it is a UL issue, but if permitted by the AHJ...? Any specific code violations ?

If removeable and permissible by manufacturer you should have no problems.

As Barbeer mentioned, you will need to contact the manufacturer and discuss this with them. If they permit this, I would ask for it in writing to present to the AHJ and keep a copy for your records.

which, from my experience in asking mfgs. for such, is that you have as much chance getting a letter as you do finding a snowball in he**
