I'm involved in a school board job where we are replacing an existing metal roof and the roof has an existing lighting protection system. My design indicates to replace roof top terminals and aluminum conductors with new and connect to existing vertical conductors after replacement of roof. My question, this is a UL tested system and it's master label is located on the main distribution board in the building. If touching/modifying an existing lighting protection system how do you not violate its existing UL listing? Does it just need to be re-tested after roof replacement (impedance to ground, etc..)? This is an elementary school building, with a metal roof, in Florida so I want to make sure everything is in order.

Although the NEC grounding rules are directly associated with lightning protection they will not provide the answers you are looking for, you will need to contact a LP contractor for assistance.

it isn't UL tested or listed. A master label indicates that it is installed in accordance with the applicable standard.
