Is there any reason any one can find that there needs to be 600v thhn wiring installed in conduit, (flexable)whithin a UL listed raceway within modular furniture. There are seperate raceways for the communications and the power. This job is located whithin the city of Chicago. I know in the past we have ran all 600v THHN wiring in superflex to the receptacles and task lighting in modular furniture. The furniture manufacturer claims it is not neccasary, but I don't want to take any chances with the inspectors. Any information would be helpfull.

Re: Modular furniture

TL, Ya better check with Chicago on that. I am in process of relocating to that region and I am finding a lot of requirements there are "above and beyond" And bdarnell, I agree unless I missed something also ?

Re: Modular furniture

Thanks for your input, I was hopeing someone familiar with Chicago codes could come up with some article on the requirements or Chicago's interpretation of the codes regarding modular furniture. I know it is different because when we work in the suburbs they go by NEC and we do not install the wire in conduit, but in the City limits we always have used superflex conduit and sometimes gem boxes for devices, even though the wiring was in a seperate raceway.

Chicago Electrical Code Artical 605 Office Furnishings

18-27-605.2 General Wiring in and on office partitions shall comform to all applicable chapter provisions. Relocatable wired partitions are not considered portable and, as such, plug and jack connections are not acceptable. All wiring is to be contained in listed and labeled electical raceways and outlet boxes.

Boy, there's a conflicting statement - they are relocatable, but not portable. I guess in order to be portable, they have to have a handle.
