In honor of Neil Armstrongs walk on the moon 41 years ago today. Here are 2 pictures of structures that I had the privilege of working on, albeit much later.

If it didn't my father made a very good living taking photographs for the better part of 27 years. And I have done well wiring buildings for NASA since 1988.

By the way the old mill I have posted pictures of is an integral part of the space program.

As a kid we used to think the name of the building was the HICK building because of the part of town it is in. Little did we know what went on there. It is really known as the HIC (Huntsville industrial Complex). Most of the Saturn V and the lunar rover were designed there.

So the fire was your fault? :D

I would like to think so.
As a kid we used to stand on Highlands hill and watch the full burn tests. An awesome sight to behold. Back in the 60's they had to burn the motors for their duration to gather all of their data. Now they do most of the testing at Stennis (where I have also worked) and we only get the minor tests.

They re-cabled the one crane in the second photo while I was there. came in on a flat rail car, took a 335 ton Bomag to offload it and begin the spooling process. Riggers at their finest.

So here's the thing.

Years ago I read that during the critical parts of the Apollo expeditions, NASA would bypass the (presumably branch) circuit breakers, on the basis that an overloaded circuit perhaps smoking a bit was a better outcome than a breaker opening and equipment going offline.

Now I cant recall where I read this, and can't find any documented note of this. Does anyone have any knowledge of this practice?

One summer while in high school I went to live with my older brother who had his own pad in Cocoa Beach Fla. I worked with him at the Mousetrap restaurant and nightclub as a busboy. The Apollo astronauts used to come in with wives/ girlfriends all the time, they were big stars back then. For them, everything was on the house.

I remember sitting on my couch as a kid and watching it on TV, I have in my head that it was later in the evening, because my folks were out somewhere and when they got home they wanted to know why I was still up, until they saw what I was watching.
