How or is a main breaker ie. 200 amp better than a 2 pole 200 amp breaker? does it have a higher AIC rating?

Re: More breaker questions

Usually the only difference between a main and a branch breaker is it's method of mounting and connection, there is normally no difference in performance.

Re: More breaker questions

Bob,
Possible yes, routine no. For most situations a a 200A breaker used as a main is not rated drastically different from a 200A breaker used as a branch.

Re: More breaker questions

petersonra,
re.
sometimes the main breaker has a different interrupting rating.
This may be so but there is not advantage in doing so unless the branch breakers are series rated with the main. If the main is 22kaic and the branches 10 unless the 10 is series rated for 22 then the panel must be considered as 10.
