The electrical test equipment on yesterdays topic of clear working space may have up to 50 kV DC @ 5 Amps under normal working conditions. Prior placement of the equipment is such that there is only three to four feet clearance side to side and three feet to a back wall (See Charlie B moderators comments on after new ownership as it applies to this situation). The cabinets have removable front, side and rear panels for testing and servicing. Does powering down and performing lockouts preclude the S-2 distances? I have seen several references to special control of equipment that does not meet the working space requirements. Warning signs that state: ?DANGER Removal of covers for examination, adjustment, servicing or maintenance REQUIRES LOCKOUT/TAGOUT Due to working space limitations?. In addition how does one relate the DC voltages present vs. the AC voltage in the S-2 chart given that a DC voltage will jump a smaller gap than an AC voltage of the same potential? Your thoughts??
