I posed this question on another thread that died.
I'm very interested to know how many shops or offices out there have more than one active member here.

Some of the threads I start here are on behalf of other electricians at our shop. They use the info gathered here but I have not been able to get them to register.

Are we 1500 that stand alone?

as far as i know im the only one in my area

Same here. Truth is, I think I'm the only semi-computer literate electrician in my shop. So sad.

I've mentioned it a couple times to the guys but the idea of chatting about work related issues at home apparently seems like a waste of time to them.

ding ding ding ding we have a winner. When I talk about Mike Holt electricians say "huh who is he"? I am sure there are other guys out there that provide training, This site is one of the best I known. It would be nice to have a chat room. That would kinda be like a Electricians meeting.

We're all going to get rich?
Yea right, and I'm Bill Gates :D  but if it happens that I do get rich, well now that's a different story  then I'm going nitro racing.

I have e-mailed the link to here to several other electricians/contractors I know, but none has signed up yet.

Finding a guy that really wants to put fourth some extra effort to learn is hard enough. Finding two of them in the same shop is pretty rare.

I do not want an edge, even though that is how I have made a living for 26 of my 37 years as an electrician. I'd rather electricians knew what was required of the to do proper installlations. I am never afraid to teach others, though many never listen.

I personally feel like I kill some threads, "Homer I say" ....LOL

But more so I feel its more like the 1-9-1 post of :

Apprentices not ready in 20 man office...

I couldn't even get a Electrical Engineer (Friend) to post his Web site ... Free Links, Free PR ... maybe he's has to
many, "You know, I need some information on..." questions, now. Just the Deer in the headlight stare.
You want business, set up a Charge Card Account, Gezz ... Ebe and flow...

As for the semi-computer literate electrician, well said, talk about putting a glaze in someone eyes, they just don't get it ... Know it, or care...

Maybe some people have a Life

Tell all my friends, Zero, Nota, Zilch

Maybe MIke should send use all a nice little decal say 2x2 of that Light Bulb Graduate, some can put it next to there Apple Logo, some next to thier NRA logo, some next to there. "Hire an Electrican, its not a weekend hobby" Bumper sticker, Or slap it on the gang box, tool box, poster board / Pin cushion, now thats a thought!
Don't forget to honk and wave.

My little company only has me and two other men. My friend and other electrician is not a member but reads everyday. I tell everyone at the supply house about this site but don't keep up with who reads. I think alot just like to read and learn without signing on. That's proof by the list of guest. Thanks to all of you that reply, without the ones of us that reply there would be no forum. Semper Fi. Buddy

too bad there are just two of us...

I am the only one in our shop, but then, I am the only electrician. My boss would probably like it (motors, generators, and controls), but I don't hink he is much of a blogger. I will say I was talking with a local inspector shortly after joing the site and found out he was a member. Careful what you post. He did ask me to take it easy on the inspectors.

This was me for several years. The Forum was an eye opener to how much I didn't know:-? . Having felt I just tapped the golden keg of knowledge it only seemed logically to inform others of it. Needless to say they didn't share my excitement.

Coming up through the ranks I wanted to learn everything about everything. The unfortunate reality about our trade is a person's technical expertise is limited to the knowledge of those around you (in addition to experience). Night school helps but not everyone receives the oppurtunity. This site opens the door to those how are trully passionate about our trade and want to better themselves, be it the technical aspect or the business end.

It never ceases' to amaze me how my boss and I can engage in a meaningful code discussion only to hear him finish with "well that's the way we've been doing it and it's never been flagged."

Oddly enough you'd think he'd want to prove his point........maybe with the help of a website?;)

I agree about being careful what you post. Look at all the quest that read this and you don't know who they are. Although I never say anything I'm ashamed of or wouldn't say to someones face. I guess most people don't mind what they say because they don't use there company name. (Ever notice I'm I think the only one that uses his company name)? I do appreciate this site for talking about electrical jobs and codes. I feel like it is a family that has something in common with me. Semper Fi

Agreed.... unfortunately. I've tried to promote this site (and another), but the guys I work with just aren't interested.
