FYI If you are installing a meterbase panel combo in North Carolina you might want to check with Duke Energy first for approval. The only Siemens that they will accept here is the 8/16 Mobile Home Feeder Panel.

Here is the letter from Duke energy. If the meter base is not one of these then it will not be accepted
To: Electrical Contractors in North and South Carolina
Duke Energy is now a member of the Meter Equipment Group(MEG). This organization is
clip_image002.jpg
comprised of several electric utilities and specifies the requirements for self-contained customer owned meter sockets that are acceptable for use within the territories of the member utilities. MEG evaluates and approves meter sockets and develops and maintains an approved list.
Effective January 1, 2016, all newly installed meter sockets in the Duke Energy Carolinas and Duke Energy Progress territories must be on this approved list of meter sockets. This includes any meter sockets installed on permanent services or on temporary services for locations such as fairs, displays, exhibits and similar purposes. Existing meter sockets at these locations can remain in service. Existing services that are upgraded or moved will be required to have MEG approved sockets.
Meter sockets currently installed on contractor temporary service poles or boards used for temporary construction services can continue to be used. Newly constructed temporary construction service poles or boards should be built with MEG approved sockets.
The approved list of meter sockets is posted on the DEC and DEP websites at the following locations:
DEC: http://_www.duke-energy.com/_pdfs[MEG-Approved-Sockets-2015.pdf
DEP: https://www.progress-energy.com/assets/www/docs/business/MEG-ApprovedSockets-List. pdf
Meter socket model numbers can be verified by referring to this list. Also, MEG approved sockets can be identified by a sticker or stamp located on the inside and outside of the enclosure indicating that the socket meets the requirements and is on the approved list of sockets.
We apologize for any confusion that has surfaced over this matter. If you have any questions, please call.

An executive officer at Duke Energy may hold stock in Square-D, Eaton, or serves on their board of directors.

I would sure hope it is design specifications that make or break being on the list and not brand names.

I suspect that in addition to specifications being examined, the manufacturer would have to ask to be put on the list and choose to pay for the evaluation. Some might elect not to do that.

Yes, or they may even be in the process of getting their meters approved (since Siemens has one meter that was approved).

I'd take my complaints to Siemens.

Our local utility also has an "approved meter" list that is about 5 pages long. But I've never heard of them rejecting a meter.
