Just got word that I may get to design a 4 story Motel/Convention Center. I've done motels back when, but this is larger. What is the "typical" range of service sizes for a job like this? I would like to get a heads up before I go into the initial meetings. I know the above is vague, but I just need a range of sizes.

What's your preference, 120/208V or 480/277V incoming service?

THANKS!

With the motel, you've got a lot of 120/208-240 V loads (lights, plugs, PTAC's, etc.) so if you go 480, you're looking at transformation. On the other hand, depending on the size of the convention center, you could use 277 V lighting. I don't recall ever doing a hotel 480, but that's not to say it doesn't make sense.

As far as the size range goes, with a 4 story, convention center, electric heat, maybe a restaurant (?), I guess between 2500 and 4000 amp @ 208. Probably closer to 2500, I'd bet. Depending on how your utility meters, you might have two services - one for heat and one for general loads.

YMMV. Good luck.
