So I'm forced to do a load calculation on an existing 12-unit motel with an attached house. I know I have to calculate the house separately, and I've already done that, but I'm a little rusty on the motel calculation. I haven't done one since 2013!
Very basic setup. The units are 225 sq ft and a bathroom. Each unit has a window AC and a bathroom, which I assume I need 1500 VA for. The window AC will be overridden by the 3000-watt heater I'm adding to each room, which is why I must do a load calc because I'm adding 42 kW to the existing 200 amp service and I need to see if a 300 amp service will suffice, otherwise I have to go to 400, which requires commercial equipment (i.e. CT meter, etc.).
Each room has a small portable microwave and fridge, which, as I understand, do not constitute "permanent provisions for cooking."
So, I'm wondering how I calculate the watt/sq ft and demand load for the service. Thanks!
