Hey everyone. First post. I was told today that motion sensor lighting, exterior garage etc.., needs to be on a switch per code. Can anyone cite the reference? I was always under the impression that a photo cell/motion sensor combo light could be on a constant power circuit.

Thanks. For your help!

There is a requirement for a switch or manual override in 210.70 excep. (2) but that is only for habitable rooms.
I know of no requirement for outdoor lights to have a switch along with any type sensor to control the lights.

Some photocell and motion detector combinations allow you to override the motion detector remotely by cycling the power off and back on again.
Without a manual switch this functionality is lost.
