Hello,

I have a motor that controls a pump in a industrial application.

Does the controller (start/stop/try switch) have to be located near the motor? I am reading section 430.102 and 430.81. For our case, the disconnect to the motor is in the MCC and the controller is next to the motor in the fied.

I would like to know if I can move the controller in a location away from the motor in the field. The motor is inside a buiiding, and I want to move the controller to the motor outside the building. I am not finding nothing in the section 430.81 that says the controller must be next to the motor.

Thanks

The stop/start/try buttons are not the controller(s) that 430.102 is talking about.

The controller is the motor starter that is likely in your MCC.

The NEC is silent about the location of buttons for stop and start.

Is there a maintenance need to have local control? Is there an environmental reason to remove local control?
