Motor damage...

What causes an water cooled Walk In Freezer compressor to be damaged....aside from water being cut off ? Apparently the water cooled unit is supposed to shut down when water is cut, but I didn't see any sign of such an limit switch. last time the City cut off water... this time??? It was drawing 70amps off one leg...obvious why it tripped! Capacitors were tested and appeared normal. potential relay was replaced.

Tested also for shorts to ground which was negative. Readings from motor terminals were 3.6 ohms, 3.9 ohms, 1.3 ohms... installer thought they were correct readings for normal motor resistance. later we were told the motor was cooked...

Windings go bad sometimes, bearings go bad, problems with power in the building, loose connection....hard to say with the info you have given.

Ohm readings don't mean much unless you use a megger.
