Motor Nameplates

I was recently at a job site and an equipment nameplate had I L = 156A and I N =48A. What do these stand for and what is the load of the motor?

I = current. L = line. N = neutral. A = amps. Motor load = 156.

Thanks Charlie. I was just wondering if it was any different because this piece of equipment is Italian.

What is the voltage and horsepower? Is this for 50 hertz?

I don't know if it was 50Hz or not. The voltage was listed as 440V.

I know it's not connected to a 50Hz system. Would that make the nameplate info incorrect?

It's not on there unless some other letters (besides hp) would be used in Italy.

Can you read the amperage with a clamp on meter?

Are the words "Cavallo Vapore" printed on the nameplate?

Not that I remember but I can have someone look. Does that mean horsepower?

Just a guess but "L" could be locked rotor amps and "N" could be the actual motor amperage. To be sure, a HP rating is needed.

Take a look at the name plate instead of HP it may give a KW rating, Most european motors are rated by KW
