Motor Overcurrent Protection of Branch Circuit

I have a 2-hp,230 volt, 12 ampere , single phase repulsion-start, induction-run motor that connected across the rated line voltage. What size overcurrent protection for the branch circuit feeding this motor is needed? Also I need to know the running-overcurrent protection for this motor. Code references would be greatly appreciated! Also, what size of wire is used for the branch circuit feeding this motor?

Re: Motor Overcurrent Protection of Branch Circuit

Article 430 is separated into 13 parts. These parts are labeled and help to determine where in 430 you try to locate what the requirements for your particular application may be.

Re: Motor Overcurrent Protection of Branch Circuit

You'll need a code book, here are the references:
The motor branch short circuit and ground fault protection is found in part iv, the size depends on what it is, time delay fuses, IT TM circuit breaker, etc, this can be from 250% to 800% of FLA.
Running overcurrent is determined by the nameplate amperage and it depends on the type of overloads used, it typically is 125%, and is really determined by the overloads.
The size of the branch circuit is in part II, and is typically 125% of the table value.
