motor overcurrent protection

I have seen motor disconnects fused and not fused. If you have overcurrent protection at the panel why would you need a fused disconnect.

Sometimes the wire is oversized for voltage drop, so the breaker protects the wire, the fuse protects the motor.

The fuses my be providing the motor overload protection. The breaker at the panel does not provide that protection.

Plus, some equipment, such as some AC units, specifies fuses, not fuses or breakers.
