I have a question concerning installation of power capacitors at motor loads. Assuming the wire is sized right for the capacitor, and assuming it is connected to the load side of the motor contactor, the code says it does not have to have overcurrent protection. What if, however, the wire size of the capacitor is (as allowed) two sizes smaller than the motor wiring? If the capacitor is sized correctly it is protected by the motor overloads. What about the wire? Should a fuse block be installed? If so, where? If at the capacitor the wiring would not be protected. Is it even necessary? This one has me going in circles.
