Hello Everyone,
I have a quick question regarding OCP for a small exhaust fan that I'm installing on a restaurant roof. My inspector informed me that if the motor is thermally protected, the circuit breaker will act as the OCP. No need for a fused disconnect. The motor is 120v,less than 1/2 hp. I'm going to install a motor rated toggle switch on the fan as a service disconnect. Just wanted to check with everyone out there that this will be a proper, compliant install.
Thanks in advance everyone.

If it is intended to supply LO/TO provisions, just make sure to get the accessories that allow a lock to be used.

To know for sure if the motor has internal protection, look to the nameplate. If it does, they must say so. It may use the entire words, it may abbreviate it as "TP" for Thermally Protected or "TS" for Thermal Switch. Occasionally it's obvious because there is a red reset button on the end or in the connection box. If there is zero indication on the nameplate or elsewhere, you must assume the motor does not have it and use the motor toggle switch version that has a heater element.
