For motor starting application, with an existing wye-delta starter and 6-lead motor, can the motor be re-connected to delta run and connected to a solid state reduced voltage starter abandoned the wye leads without issues? We have an owner who provided some owner provided equipment the existing starter was wye-delta the new is a solid state reduced voltage?.

Well, you CAN just connect it in Delta, in fact you pretty much have to, but that still means using ALL 6 CONDUCTORS, nothing is "abandoned".

Not to muddy the waters but we hooked up a soft start a couple years ago that could do a part winding start If needed. We opted not. Fancy little sucker.

The existing six wires will have been designed for the motor FLC when in delta. Just double up on each leg of the delta. If you ditch ? the conductors can we see a photo of the aftermath please.

Open delta is tricky but you can get away with a smaller soft start unit
