Hi, having a problem at work. We have a roll-up door, 480v, controlled either locally or by security in their office. Recently the door opened on its own, and has done so several times since. (Not good for a convention center - angry clients.) When the door is down, the pressure sensor gets activated by any light touch, even heavy wind, and the door goes up. I'll open the local switch and the motor tomorrow. Should see 3 phase power to motor, control wires to remote office, and switch wires to local switch. Don't have schematics. Any ideas on what could be the problem or how I should troubleshoot this? Thanks.

If properly wired the pressure sensor should reverse the travel of the door while it is moving, but should not be active once the travel limit switch has stopped the door in the closed position.
I would suspect a failed relay or incorrect implementation of the control logic in the first place.

Thanks, GoldDigger. I'll start with the relay.

Another possibility would be a misadjustment of the lower limit switch so that it is opening again on the rebound after stopping the door travel.

I would call the manufacture and get ahold of a service tech. I am sure they have seen this a 1000 times before and can point you in the right direction. "Oh, you need to replace the retro entabulator, part number 42."

That's Encabulator.

Yeah, I tried that. Cookson Door. Big outfit. No help at all. They said I would need to provide them with a job number, but I have no paperwork. Another problem presented itself today - when the door is locked down by security (remotely), the local door controls are still operable. Not supposed to work that way. Our security people are freaking out, our "motor control" electrician is on vacation so it's my problem now. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.

To prevent nuisance events while exhibitions are underway until you get it fixed, you could nuke the power to the motor after you lower the door. If they need to open it, they'll need to turn the power back on.

A holding circuit contact possibly hanging up for some reason leaving the safety edge sensor active even though the motor contactor has dropped out.

But then the local controls still working when security has remotely locked them out maybe suggests some things were never connected correctly in the first place.
