Excuse my silly question. But when the say grounding. Do they mean actual ground (earth). Or do they mean Equipment grounding (bonding) conductor.

It seems to me they actually mean grounded. Connected to planet earth. If so... why? I often see larger motors connected to the station grounding system.

250 Part VI discusses methods of grounding but for the most part it is accomplished by a means noted in 250.118.

I think that stems from dated language, before the code was changed to define grounding as being a path back to the source vs an actual ground rod sunken into the soil.

So basically it’s saying “grounding”, a path Back to the source. I can understand that better than earthing it.

Maybe so. Should be different code making panel involved with 250 than with 430 and just never been sufficient coordination between those sections when changes were made in 250?
