I would like to know where to get info/books on how to troubleshoot AC motors. Also, on how to rebuild, and when it is better to get new. I am sure there are books available, where? Any info appreciated......

Internet is a good source for anything you want to learn about. So, you can start from there. As far as rebuilding motors ( how): Many trades do not getting to that. Set up you have to have and doing the actual work is not necessarry, over kill. It is cheaper to buy a new motor. I rebuilt motors where I knew for sure that bearings on the motor were the problem. If you have problems with the windings, forget it. There are situations where you have a special motor that you cannot purchase, you would find someone who could rebuild them for you. Example :Such as high speed motors on industrial equipment manufactured in different part of the world. May not be able to get them in this country ?. It will be very expensive to purchase them or you have no time to wait etc.I hope this helps.

There is rule of tumb that motor windings over and including 40HP are economic to rebuild. That was true for copper prices some years ago, I do not know how the economic model would shake out today. Of course you won't attempt to establish your own winding shop.:D

If you're looking to get a motor rebuilt, or recommend someone who can rebuild them, try these guys:

Ohio Electric Motor Service Center
1854 S High St
Columbus, OH 43207
(614) 444-1451

It may be a run from Butler county, but it could be worth it in certain circumstances.

*edit to add phone number
