good day sirs,

what is a continuous duty motor? our phil elect code defined it as 'motors operating at a substatntially constant load for an indefinitely long time'. is a compressor motor for an office ACU classified as such (8 hrs operation)? i am confused since there is also the varying duty and periodic duty classifications which i think this motor should be classified since it is controlled by the room temp setting and as such operates periodically....thanks

Re: motors

It is indeed a continuous duty motor - by definition. While it runs, the load is relatively constant and the time is indefinite.

Check Section 430-22(E) and the note to its referenced Table. Other motors in the Table are typically referred to as "definite purpose" motors in NEMA MG-1. Check the descriptors in the Table for examples of the of other applications.
