Looking for a product that would allow me to mount 5 gfcis in a row for a total of 3 rows. Up on the roof of the Church we will use stnd outlets that way if the buttons pop they are downstairs and we dont have to climb up the worst straight up 15 foot steel ladder on planet earth thought about mounting 2 gang bell boxs on back to back metal studs. Any better ideas are welcome :)

Re: Mounting gfcis

Since you're looking at back to back Bell boxes with receptacles down below, I'm assuming that these GFCI receptacles are outside. I would scrap the plan to put the GFCI's outside if possible and just use GFCI CB's in the panel. Factoring in the cost of the Bell boxes, GFCI rec's, in-use covers and additional labor it would seem to be more economical to use GFCI CB's with the standard devices up top and eliminate the GFCI rec's altogether.

Re: Mounting gfcis

what are you using them for? heat tapes? mounting them shouldn't be a problem, bell and bubble covers. running your power down below through a two gang faceless gfci with a pilot light switch to control the plugs on the roof would be the way to keep the sisters from having to climb up onto the roof.

Re: Mounting gfcis

Christmas lighting around the parrapet of the church exterior wals. Its been constantly raining and they keep popping the rest button cause they are a bankof 4 rows per sign made up of size c-7 bulbs.
The main sign is in 4 sections.
When we probed the sign it pulls 14.7 amps on 1 leg
12.5 on another leg 12.5 on 3 leg and 10.4 on the 4th leg.

This is a huge sign. Metal Framework wrapped in C-7 Light Bulbs you can see this from 4 miles away. It is the centerpiece of "CHRISTMAS IN THE PINES"

Presently have 6 circuits #12 thhhn w/gnds #12 individually. Lookin for ways to keep buttons downstairs and stnd outlets on the roof. The gfcis only cost us $5 a piece. The panel was a gift the breakers were gifts also.We need 12 circuits maybe even 16 circuits for the roof top

Re: Mounting gfcis

I would think about keeping the GFCIs as close to the load as possible, because leakage current in the length of the conductors may also contribute to the inconvienence tripping.
Use facelace GFCIs in the lower area below the ladder and then standard receptacles up by the location of where the lights plug in.

Re: Mounting gfcis

If I were installing the GFCIs, I would get a hinged cover junction box large enough to fit all of the GFCIs and cut box sized holes in the cover and install the GFCIs in the cover. Make sure you leave enough space between them to permit the faceplates to be installed.

Re: Mounting gfcis

Been to the supply house and had a brain fart. Here we go, I got 1 each 4 ft indoor gutter and am taking two mud-ring from a 5 switch box and a couple of pieces of aluminium bracket 2 x2 inchs. On the gutter opening side I mount the aluminium and mud-rings.
Attach the aluminium to the gutter and lay the mud ring onto it and screw it down solid.
I'm leaveing the ends of the gutter open so that after I am done I run a pipe up to the roof to a second gutter hangng low under a pre-made aluminium air conditioning rack.On it I will mount 10 outlets on the same mud ring setup, with in-use covers.I ntend to run 10 #12s blue feeds to the gfci'from a adjacent square d panel, and 10#12s red upstairs to the second gutterw/neutrals and grounds(#14).Install standard outlets with in use covers upstairs. Downstairs in the power room I wil cover the gfcis with 5 gang white plastic covers Decora style.Murphy engineering wins! :)

Re: Mounting gfcis

Here's a pdf link for the Wiremold 4000 series.

Interesting stuff. Unlike nonmetalic varieties, the 0.050 inch galvanized has uses for 300+vac acording to 1999 NEC 352, (edit)+ 2002-NEC 386.12(2).
