Quote: "Lets see how the master counts". All Im trying to do is get to the point if the numbers really mattered they would have been correct. What I was referring to was the fact that a GFCI was going to be installed in the same box as the 12/3 ans 12/2.We are all here to help one another not to be sarcastic or rude,it does not help when people critisize one another. By the way your Christmas card is in the mail.

Re: Mr.J Walker

If it's the gfci receptacle you think was a violation ,it is not.Device counts only as 2.If the wiring is neat it will not be a problem.

Re: Mr.J Walker

Butch, I came in late are you referring to box fill ? If so, as an Inspector I look. let me know. Where is My card ? Thanks.

Re: Mr.J Walker

12ga=2.25 cui Device 4.50 cui and only count grounds once 2.25 cui. Just thought I would add to my further reply. Just tryin to help.

Re: Mr.J Walker

Butch, I mentioned in the other thread that a GFI is worth two conductors, the same as any other device.

Yes, it's a pain in the fanny to trim, but it's legal.

Re: Mr.J Walker

I find it strange that the NEC does not differentiate between the volume taken up by a GFCI receptacle and the volume taken up by a normal receptacle, when doing box fill calculations. It seems like a GFCI receptacle is larger. I don't know how much larger, but it seems like it would make a difference of a couple cubic inches.

Re: Mr.J Walker

I think the alloted volume for a device is darn close to the physical dimensions of a GFI, if I'm not mistaken. It's the smaller devices that benefit from the extra breathing room, IMO. :)

Well, PS says their GFCIs are 5.24 cu.in. (1.18 x 2.61 x 1.7), so they are about 2.3 device allocations  . P&S GFCI spec page
