MRI room .

Term being used. Non- ferrous material shall be used on all removable items such as but not limited to electrical switch & outlet plates, Mounting screws, Light fixture componnets and the BIG WORD (ETC).

What do you do for Electrical boxes, conduits running in wall and overhead. Is their a code here sure there is somewhere?

Going from memory here, but usually an MRI rooms is lined with either lead or copper. Anything inside that envelope is supposed to be non-ferrous. They make every item you need for this. aluminum conduit, and boxes, etc.

Are the boxes and pipe considered removable? NEC does not address MRI specifically as far as I know.

Typically we use standard steel boxes and EMT. Items within the walls are secured and can not be a flying hazard inside the magnet room. In ceilings we use aluminum FMC for fixtures but even then we use EMT and steel boxes as they are securely fastened in place. This is true in GE, Hitachi, Phillips and Siemens units.

Not code but the manufacturers installation instructions. The manufacturer should have a rep. assigned to the project that can help clarify. But I usually see installs similar to what Roger described.

The light fixtures will definitely need to be made for a MRI installation. They make can lights with very low ferrous content just for these rooms. Lighting is a real pain in these rooms - nonferrous, and you won't be able to use any kind of fluorescent fixture.

Leave all the ferrous tools (and your credit card) outside the room once the magnet is energized.
