Mud Room

What is the receptacle requirement for a mud room? This will be a small room where you can take off your shoes and hang your coat between the garage and kitchen. In 210.52(A) there is nothing on the list of rooms that fits the description of a mud room nor is it similar to any room on the list.

I don't really see how a mud room is such a unique space that it wouldn't fall under the "or similar room or area" clause of 210.52(A).

Unless the room is so small you could argue it's a hallway then normal 6' spacing is required.

I would say that it's more akin to a walk through closet than any room on the list.

I would treat it as a hallway or foyer at very least - some may use electric drying devices for boots or even plug battery chargers in there for equipment they take out of the house on a regular basis.

Bingo, and that is how we treat it. I normally put one or two receptacles—depending on the customer. The 6-12’ rule is not required

Personally I use the IRC definition of a habitable room. If the required size and ventilation specs are met I would apply the NEC wall rule.
