Multi-Conductor mechanical lugs

Is there a code reference or manufacturers recommendation that states when a mechanical lug is rated for more than one conductor that the conductors should all be of the same size?
 
Not sure that there is a code reference but the lug will mandate the sizes and they are usually mandating the same size.
 
Are you asking about a split bolt?

You can mix. See the attached chart.

No, in fact, that's what these are for...

Might not be what you had in mind, but it's the same core concept.

The issue is however, there are rules about tapping off of something that must be followed, especially when considering how the conductors are protected.
