Crazy question. On a 480V single phase circuit powering a 400w metal halide street lights are there any other possible cons (other than wasted power and another point of failure) of using the 120v or 277v lead of the multi-tap ballast to power a 120/277 led lamp?

I have a sample lamp from tcp that claims to be a 400w MH lamp equivalent that can be used in an enclosed fixture. In my case a cobra head. I wanted to put this lamp through its paces without having to purchase a regular auto transformer. Any issue for test purposes?
