I am pulling an MCHL cable to a from an unclassified location to a Class 1 Zone 2 terminal box with no ignition source in it. The unclassified location has positive pressure. The MCHL has an inner jacket that goes around the pairs. Each pair has a shield. 505.16(C)(2)(a) Exception No. 2 mentions that the "Shielded cables cables and the twisted pair cables shall not require the removal of the shielding material or the separation of the twisted pairs, provided the termination is by approved means to minimize the entrance of gases or vapors and prevent propagation of flame into the cable core." Would sealing around the inner jacket satisfy this requirement or would it need to be removed to seal around the individual pairs?
