If someone else doesn't reply, you might try a bit different description. I don't follow, but that may be me :D

here is the description:
  • one existing 1600A service entrance switchboard with 1600A main breaker and 1600A main (horizontal bus) and four vertical 400A distribution sections with 400A taps
  • in the same switchboard there are two spare vertical sections that each can accommodate installation of a 1600A feeder breaker (space wise)
  • the Owner wants to install a 1600A feeder breaker in each spare vertical section and install two separate 1600A (temporary) feeders
  • each 1600A feeder is to energize a 3000A switchgear with connected load at approximate 800A

What is the load calculation for all of the loads that will be served by the 1600 amp service? Will these new switches be service disconnects or feeder OCPDs? What size are the service entrance conductors?

  • estimated load on each 1600A branch feeder is around 800A plus.
  • each feeder will be protected by a 1600A LSIG breaker.
  • service entrance conductors are 5 sets of (4) 400 kcmil & (1) 4/0 GND per set in 4" conduits.

What about the other loads, the ones on the 400 amp breakers?
I don't know what an LSIG breaker is. How many service disconnects are in the panel?
Assuming multiple service disconnects you can do the proposed insatallation as long as the total calculated load for the service does not exceed 1900 amps.

  • minimal load on 400A breakers - lights and receptacles
  • LSIG type trip unit = Long Time/Short Time/Instantaneous/Ground Fault OC protection
  • there will be 6 disconnects total connected to switchboard's main 1600A bus

Then you can do anything you want as long as the load calculation for all of the loads does not exceed 1600 amps. It sounds like you may have a total calculated load that is greater than 1600 amps.
