Why is there so much confusion as to what's required when installing multiwire branch circuits? :( I also noticed that this panel and the others around them where full of 2 and 3 pole common trips and looking at the schedule these where all 120 volt loads.

I ended up prying the handle off of the 3 breakers I need to shut off, doing my work and putting the handles back on.

I am just surprised that a contractor that can wire a 100,000 sq ft store (Wal*Mart) does not know what is and is not required by code for multiwire branch circuits.

Hello Bob, I think a big problem is the word "yoke" and people not understanding the meaning of more than one "as in crcuits" on one yoke.

We can put more than one Ox under one yoke,

:D

Roger, I am not familiar with that yoke is it a 100 amp or 200 amp yoke? :D

My Dad through, he was quite familiar with that type of yoke.

So the long and short of this is that an electricians do not know what a Yoke or a Dwelling is?

Re: Multiwire Branch Circuits and their Breakers.

Bob, I recently wired a kitchen with two multi wire circuits. (compactor and instant hot, dishwasher and disposal) All fed seperate duplex receptacles. Inspector seemed at first a little confused and then said make sure you use two pole breakers. Me being me I asked why. His reply was that I might overload the neutral. Valid point if breakers are not installed properly but not an NEC issue in this case. Although I enjoy a good scrap with an inspector I put them in anyway.
